Wilmington is the biggest city in Delaware by population which is nearly 75,000 residents. Situated along the Christina and Brandywine Rivers, Wilmington was notably the first Swedish settlement in North America. Throughout the course of history, the most growth in the city happened during the Civil War. The war demanded the production of goods including ships, rail cars, shows, gunpowder and more that were supplied by the Wilmington. The second wave in the 1980’s brought more growth following the Financial Center Development Act which liberalized laws governing banks making many national banks and financial institutions to open up in the area.
Today, Wilmington offers its populous a wide variety of things to do making for a great lifestyle. There are many museums, galleries and gardens that are peppered throughout along with several ethnic festivals and events being held during the calendar year. From the Wilmington Riverfront to the Vintage Atlantic wine region there is much to do for residents and visitors alike.
